Daddy the Rabbit
Once upon a time, there was a man named Bill. He was a dedicated father, and his morning routine was as predictable as the sunrise. He'd wake up before the sun, make coffee, and then tiptoe into his daughter Charlotte's room to make sure she was still sleeping soundly.
This particular morning, however, felt different. As Bill made his way to the kitchen, he noticed a strange tickling sensation in his nose. He rubbed it, but the feeling only intensified. He peered into the bathroom mirror, but everything looked normal. He went about his morning, preparing Charlotte's favorite pancakes, when he sneezed. A big, booming sneeze that made the spatula fly out of his hand.
Charlotte, a curious five-year-old, came running into the kitchen. "Daddy, are you okay?" she asked, her eyes wide with concern.
"I'm fine, sweetie," Bill said, reaching for his nose again. "Just a little tickle."
Charlotte giggled. "Your nose is wiggling!"
Bill frowned and looked in the reflection of the toaster. Charlotte was right. His nose was wiggling. And then he saw it. A single, thin, brown hair was sticking out of his nostril. He pulled on it, and another one appeared. Then another, and another, until his entire nose was covered in a thick, brown fur.
He stared at his reflection in horror. He had a furry nose. He tried to rub it off, but it was firmly attached. He ran his hand over it, and it felt soft, like a kitten's ear.
Charlotte, oblivious to her father's panic, reached out and gently stroked his nose. "It's so soft, Daddy! Can I have a furry nose too?"
As she spoke, a new wave of tingling swept over Bill. His ears began to stretch, elongating and folding back on his head. His hands tingled and shrank, his fingers melding into soft paws. A powerful twitch ran through his legs, forcing him to crouch down on all fours. With a final shiver, a layer of velvety brown fur covered his entire body. He had not just a furry nose, but a whole furry body. He was a rabbit.
He looked up at Charlotte, who was staring at him in fascination, not fear. He wanted to tell her he was still her daddy, but all that came out was a soft wiggle of his nose and a gentle thump of his back foot.
Charlotte giggled, a sound like a tiny bell. "You're a bunny, Daddy!" she exclaimed, reaching down to pet his head.
Bill nuzzled his small face into her hand. He was a rabbit now, but his heart was still a daddy's heart. He hopped into her arms, and she carefully cradled him, just as she always had. The pancakes were forgotten, but the love in the kitchen was as strong as ever. And from that day on, Charlotte had the best secret in the world: a rabbit for a dad.
